Planning a budget for your mattress purchase

Before you start shopping for a new mattress have a general idea of the price range that you want to spend.  If money is tight you can still get a decent queen mattress set for $400-$500 click more info

When you spend $600-$700 you get an Ultra Premium set with Pocket Coils for deep down support, or you can get a memory foam set for the same price.  In the $1,000-$2000 price you get 100% all Natural Latex and Eco Memory Foam mattresses  for the high end depending on what is important to you in a mattress.

When you plan a budget for your mattress purchase you can focus on comfort and construction within that price range.

Mattress Warranties

In most cases mattress warranties are not worth the paper that they are printed on!  If a salesperson emphasizes the mattress warranty, ask to see it. I bet it looks like it is printed by a team of lawyers and the part you need to find is "normal wear and tear".  This is the catch all for most problems you might encounter that gives the manufacturer a way out of replacing the mattress.

The intelligent mattress shopper looks at components and construction to determine  the quality of a mattress, not the false security of wordy mattress warranty.

When you should never buy a floor model mattress

Sometimes you can get a great deal on discontinued floor model mattresses.  It's great to save money, but if you buy a floor model mattress from a store that offers a sleep guarantee you might get one that has been slept on and returned.  These stores usually make the customer purchase a mattress protector but you just never know if that was used.

At Golde's we don't take back mattresses for health reasons and our floor models have never left our store.

When should you replace your old mattress

This is a very subjective topic.  There a various reasons to replace your old mattress.   One might be dips in the mattress underneath hips.  If your mattress is more than 10 years old then for hygienic reasons consider a new one because your old mattress may have way too many dust mites (if you wake up with a stuffy nose that is a good indication of dust mites). As we age we need cushier sleep surfaces for better blood circulation (tossing and turning to get comfortable is a good indication of pressure points).

If you think you might need a new mattress, you probably do.

Keep family and friend's advice in perspective

Many people shop for a particular mattress based on advice from family and friends.  While this may be a good place to start, keep in mind that mattresses are like shoes-not everybody likes the same thing.  I wear and love Crocs but many people don't like them.  Try lying on different mattress constructions and compare the comforts.

You may like the same mattress as your family or friends but you won't know for sure until you investigate all of  your sleep options.
